The NSF iBioFoundry at UIUC aims to solve grand challenges of modern society by revolutionizing the engineering of biological systems such as protein machines, genetic circuits, and microbial cell factories. Our mission is to democratize access to cutting-edge laboratory automation platforms, high-end equipment, and workflows combined with training the next generation of biological engineers.
To recognize the support provided by the U.S. National Science Foundation, iBioFoundry facility users must include acknowledgments of the support in their publications, presentations, websites, press releases, or other research outputs.
Guidelines for researchers
Proper acknowledgment of the NSF iBioFoundry in the research outputs enabled by the iBioFoundry facilities is critical to demonstrate our capabilities and expand the utilization of our tools.
- Both the NSF iBioFoundry award number (DBI –2400058) and iBioFoundry name must be acknowledged in all publications that are generated or resulting from in-house research and user projects.
- The NSF iBioFoundry award number must be acknowledged in all publications that are generated or resulting from iBioFoundry support, including use of the iBioFoundry-funded tools in person or virtually.
- All publications, presentations, websites, press releases, and other such outputs generated from iBioFoundry support will acknowledge said support, using the following language: “This material is based on work supported by the National Science Foundation under Cooperative Agreement DBI –2400058.”
- NSF support must also be orally acknowledged in all news media interviews. Usage of the NSF logo in communications materials or in an official capacity should follow guidance in the NSF policy on brand standards. The NSF logo must be included as part of the BioFoundry logo, in accordance with NSF Logo and Visual Identity Guidelines, which can be found here.
Authorship for iBioFoundry staff
- iBioFoundry facility personnel are scientists. When they make a substantial intellectual and/or experimental contribution to a publication they should be acknowledged just as any other co-author.
- The staff of iBioFoundry frequently make major contributions to the research work as most of the work is highly collaborative in nature. They can have an important intellectual and scientific role in various stages of the research, through the analysis and interpretation of data, or through a full collaboration in the research. When this occurs, the staff should be included as a co-author.
- Please contact center director/managing director to discuss authorship expectations in detail.
Contact and notifications
Please notify the Managing Director of all publications (contact@ibiofoundry.illinois.edu) for inclusion on the iBioFoundry website and reports.
Note: Per NSF branding policies, the NSF logo should always appear alongside the iBioFoundry logo.
