Education & Outreach Programs
The NSF iBioFoundry is committed to developing the next generation of synthetic biology leaders through comprehensive education and training programs that lie at the interface of synthetic biology, laboratory automation, and AI/ML. As a first-of-its-kind research infrastructure, the NSF iBioFoundry will have a powerful impact on the U.S. research community. We aim to achieve a broad impact by tailoring opportunities to a variety of audiences.
Our Initiatives
- Cloud Biofoundry Automated biofoundries integrate various instruments, robotic systems, and complex scheduling software, which requires extensive expertise to operate effectively. To broaden access, we aim to develop a cloud-based, platform-agnostic framework that allows users to create and implement workflows without needing detailed instrument knowledge.
- Professional Development Workshops, seminars, and leadership development programs for students and postdocs designed to build both technical skills and career readiness.
- Broadening Participation Initiatives to broaden access to synthetic biology through the Cloud and Digital BioFoundry platforms, enabling scalable outreach, remote education, and interaction with cutting-edge technologies.
- Industrial Partnerships Collaboration with industry to provide real-world experience, knowledge sharing, and workforce development opportunities.
- Annual Summer School A week-long intensive program on biofoundry technologies and applications, providing hands-on training with state-of-the-art equipment and methodologies.
- Annual Meeting on Biofoundries and AI/ML at ACS A dedicated session for biofoundries and related technology at the ACS annual meeting, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange across the research community.
