About the Summer School

The iBioFoundry Summer School is an intensive, one-week program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign designed to provide in-depth technical training in laboratory automation and AI/ML for synthetic biology. Participants will learn how to program large liquid handlers, analytical equipment, and robotics for their own research.

The 2026 Summer School will focus on automation in synthetic biology and will teach participants the fundamentals of creating automated workflows, incorporating AI/ML into iterative design-build-test-learn cycles, and evaluating whether automation is worthwhile for their research programs.

The iBioFoundry Summer School is free for selected candidates from U.S. institutions. See below for more detailed information.
